Right after we shifted our base from India to Germany, the travel bug started bothering me. Somehow, unfortunately, I never came across that many travel blogs about Germany and when I started digging in, I found some exciting information.
Right outside of the Railway station
Just someone's backyard
I wanted to start exploring with places that are picturesque, medieval and with a touch of history (when in Europe, history is in every corner literally). I was looking at the map of Romantic road, when the name Landsberg am Lech got my eyes. Little bit of 'Pinterest"-ing and I knew where I wanted to visit that weekend.
Landsberg Am Lech
Yours truly
Landsberg am Lech- literally means the hilly town on the lake.
It takes an hour to reach Landsberg am Lech from Munich Central by train (RE). The journey is beautiful and when we reached there, it was love at first sight. It is a hilly town, situated on a lake and that sight is welcoming, warm and picturesque, all in one frame.
I knew we had to do a lot of walking, hence sneakers were really helpful. We just wanted to spend some around the lake initially. The sound of the water and cool breeze, it all deserve some attention and time.
The town is straight out of any romantic movie. Brick lanes, pretty house, very pretty doorways and peace. Some houses look beautiful with moss on the wall and for a second or two you will feel, it is not real! Is it? Or, may be you are in a dream town somewhere.
One one end of the small town, you will see the Bavarian gate. And on the other side of the lake, there is a tower, Mutter Turm. The British German artist Hubert Von Herkomer built this tower, in the memory of his Mother (Mother is Mutter in Deutsch).
The Rathaus is another place to see. You can also visit the Stadtpfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt, we skipped that.

Rathaus- Landsberg
During the WWII era, Landsberg used to be one of the strongholds of the Nazis, but that is just a piece of history for the diggers like me. The fairy tale town offers more.
We decided to have lunch at a restaurant right beside the Lake. The ambiance and the food were both perfect, coupled with Dunkel WeisBier.
